So if you ever pick up the Horror Magazines at the bookstore, but don’t pay too close of attention you’ve probably enjoyed art from Ghoulish Gary Pullin before and not even known it!  He is full time in the art dept. at Rue Morgue Magazine as has produced numerous pieces of of commissioned pieces as well.

Recently he produce the sweet Cover Art and T-shirt Art for the new Album from Montreal’s psycho-billy punk band The Brains -Zombie Nation . The graphic is  A skull brain I highly suggest you check it out and give a listen to the franticly paced psycho-billy tunes!

Being a huge fan of Edgar Allen Poe and Horror Art  I have seen my fair share of fantastic Edgar Allen Poe Portraits, but the one to the left by Ghoulish Gary is defiantly one of the best. I am not sure if it is the raven worked into his hair or if the heart bolo tie that put this over the top but this is the piece that made me slow down enough to see who drew it.

Equally Fantastic are are his praying monster prints and his Immaculate Pumpkin piece featuring the Virgin Mary with a flaming pumpkin in place of the sacred heart; something about that little piece of sacrilege just made me all warm and fuzz inside.   (See after the break)

If want to see more of Gary’s art and see what he has been up to as of late visit his website GhoulishGary.com; or connect and buy art directly from The Art of Ghoulish Gary on Etsy.

Take a Moment to see a few more pictures after the break and see what you’ve been missing with your inattentive browsing of the horror magazines at your local book store.

Zombie Bride & Groom Wedding Cake ToppersTill Death Do Us Part just isn’t cutting it anymore in this lightning paced society. We spend all our live waking hours running around like starving rats who have caught the scent of the cheese at the end of the maze and don’t always give those closest to us the quality time they deserve.  While we can’t slow the world around us you can now extend your commitment beyond the grave into the realm of the undead.

The unique hand painted zombie wedding cake toppers created by Beeloverly will let everyone in attendance at the most important day of your life know that you and your true love will not let death stand between your love of one another; even if you acquire a new lust for brains you’ll be sharing the experience together.

You can even make custom requests to have a a special cake topper of your choosing zombified by visiting Beeloverly’s Etsy Shop Zombiatch. If you like what you see but you just aren’t getting married anytime soon there is even a new zombie bunny for easter (as I call it Living Dead Day) which is supremely fitting because it is perhaps the only national holiday to glorify the rising of the undead from their grave.  Although cake toppers are the specialty requests to zombify ANYTHING are welcomed; wouldn’t a zombie gnome look nice in your garden this spring?

Zombie Ice Cream by Rachel Emma Weaver

I have to admit there was about half a second when  found out this wasn’t edible that I was a hair bummed; but then I thought honestly when I find really cool edibles the last thing I want to do is actually eat them I’d Much Rather display them with the rest of my off color nic-nacs.

Rachel Emma Weaver has went to great lengths to bring you this permanent brain freeze all the way from Australia. The cone itself is a 100%  life size replica created by making a mold of a real cone. The entire piece is hand painted with awesome detail.

If one Zombie Ice Cream isn’t enough to satisfy your sweet tooth or fill you up with you daily allotment of brains check out Emma’s Etsy Shop for more color combos and delicious Zombie Brain Cup Cakes. Take Your Time to  see the one of a kind stuffed monsters too, they are quite a treat.

Work in Progress.

Work in Progress by Aeron Alfrey

Aeron Alfrey is creating some awesome creepy art. Some of it you may have seen and not even known it. He has been published in multiple Books & various other print publications. The detail in his art is amazing I’ve always found that art with 1000 shades of grey can be just as vibrant & show even more contrast than the shards of  rainbow bursting light exploding from a prism on a bright sunny day. To Really appreciate the current work in progress pictured to the left click on the image to see it enlarged, It’ll blow your mind.

I found this new piece seemed to have a werewolf element to it that is reminiscent of a previous work Aeron had published in Electric Ant #2, It features his depiction of the Nightmare Nazi Demons from An American Werewolf in London. It is also one of the few pieces done in color, although it was published in black and white.  The Print is available in full color with a limited edition of 666.

If this wicked art has you begging for more you can see a lot more of Aeron Alfreys art on his blog The Mutated Skeleton & in the Exhibits From The Imaginary Museum gallery online. You might even be able to get your hands on some of the limited signed prints available only by directly contacting the artist on his blog.

If  you happen to be making your way through Montreal, Quebec before March 28th you can even go see an original Cheshire Cat painting at the Canteen Art Shop + Gallery as part of  Two Days Slow an Alice an Wonderland Showcase. You could go see the new movie, then go see the art inspired by the story, &  maybe if you have a chance squeeze a tea party in there for a perfect night on the town. Now if only I had a plane ticket to Montreal.

Zombie Che Guevara

Undead & Red, The New Red Scare!

Everyone is worried about terrorists now days, but fact of the matter is terrorists blowing stuff up is nothing new. It’s only new to those of  us lucky enough to live in a place where it doesn’t happen everyday! I personally am not too worried about my house getting blown up in the middle of the night.

I think we all now that I am getting to the real hot button issue facing most democratic nations. The threat of undead communist revolutionaries sprawling the globe and infecting the masses. These are some of the most influential men in recent history and now they can simply chew on the ear (literally) of non believers for a few minutes and have them converted in anywhere from 1-24 hours. (If Hollywood has taught me anything)

Now if you are anything like me and want to welcome our new Undead Communist Overlords upon arrival & hopefully convince them you are already on their side you can get one of these limited edition prints from the 3D Monster Art Store to hang prominently above your mantel or in plain view of your entry way. It should stop those communist zombies DEAD in their tracks.

This Che Guevara Zombie Print is a limited edition of 50 don’t miss your chance to flatter the inevitable army of rotting communist corpses that will be knocking down your door the next time you hear the air raid sirens blaring.

If you have some more empty space on your walls Daniel Bru has some other great horror themed pop art prints too & since they are digital you can ask for any color combo you want to match the rest of your offbeat decor.

So if you’re anything like me, that picture on the left has you saying  “what the (insert favorite expletive) is that ?!?!?!” Although some would say the real answer may be debatable, I can tell you what it psychically is. A 100%  real life mummified bird that has been  mounted on canvas inside an antiqued Oak frame.

If it still doesn’t seem quite right to your eye thats because the artist Raven cleverly and I’m sure with great difficulty has positioned the remains to resemble a flying insect. Looks like a good reason to buy a mosquito net if their ever was one. Check out the close-up HERE.

If this got you excited then you should go check out the artists shop Dreadful Things by Raven, there you can find more morbid creations ranging from taxidermy bats displayed in antique Victorian cages, to jewelry dawning bird skulls. If the REAL dead stuff isn’t really your thing you might still find some great paintings, prints, & cards from the same mind that created these terrorific one of a kind works of art.

If the dead stuff upsets you, bummer I guess, but before you go writing complaints to me or the artist note that the bird skeletons & skulls used are from found dead animals so let it go. Stick to throwing paint on fur coats and let outsider artists pick up the dead things left by the neighborhood cats. I could only hope that my remains could become a piece of jewelry or art instead of dirt when I die; dirt isn’t original at all!

El Chivo Stencil

I think we are all familiar with Banksy by now. After all he made stenciling and street art famous – he even has a book at Urban Outfitters, but don’t let it stop you from trying your hand at the art. People all over the globe have been using stencil art to spread political messages and good humor alike since long before the current modern street wear & urban art culture explosion.  If you wanna check out what some other folks are doing check out some galleries at  Art  of the State & Stencil Graffiti.

Anyone can make a stencil and you can use it again and again to plaster everything in sight with whatever you can cut out of a piece of cardboard or mylar with a razor blade. I remember crudely cutting my band’s logo out of the back side of a cereal box pulled from a recycling bin, and using regular spray paint to tag it on scraps of canvas, it wasn’t anything fancy but I think we were the 1st band in the school to have “merch” ; a term that would imply we sold them, when we really just gave them to anyone who would actually safety pin it to something!

If you wanna give it a shot snag a blade, an old box and a sharpie and have at it. If you’re stumped for original ideas you can find tons of Free Stencils for personal use & public enjoyment (read not for resale) at STENCILPUNKS.org and start making your world a more colorful place. If you have an original design you don’t mind sharing you can even submit it to them and get credited to live on forever in Internet Infamy & have punk kids across the globe tagging your art on every surface known to man.

I wish the scribble happy taggers that slopped up some initials all over our alley knew about the site. They could have put up 2x as many 4x as fast and have it look 10x better.  Artistic graffiti is like urban renewal, it’s not like that dumpster in your apt. complex wasn’t an eyesore before you stenciled that mural on it!

Here’s a quick fix for all of you who haven’t found a cool piece of jewelry at your local thrift store since thrifting became hip again; Or just aren’t into the mass produced  {Insert Latest Trendy “Cult” Movie Here} necklace at Hot Topic. Which might look kinda cool which is why every hipster waiting in line to buy tickets at next weeks midnight screening of Plan 9 From Outer Space will be wearing one.

The Pendants made by ZombieHead are one of a kind creations so you can be sure you won’t be caught undead at the next Zombie March with the same necklace as one of the other flesh devouring attendees. Krystal Osborne has meticulously hand sculpted everyone of her Zombie heads with the detail that will thrill true fans of the macabre.  You can admire all of her most current creations on her Etsy Store but don’t hesitate if you love what you see because no two of these savage little ghouls are exactly alike.

I hope you have heard of Rudimentary Peni, if not stop here and go hear it before continuing…………..Now that we are all on the same page Check out the lead singers Schizo Art featured above.  Blinko Plays Guitar and sings in this epic 3 piece band that pioneered a new dark punk sound in the early 80’s . I have been a fan of his art since I first saw it on an album cover, but when people ask who my favorite artists are no one ever knows about Nick Blinko and many young punks haven’t heard Rudimentary Peni. I think that should change.  If you share this post you could help change that, it’s not gonna bring Darby Crash back from the dead, or end the war, but shit we gotta start building the world we want somewhere. Why not start with a little old school punk rock and some schizophrenic art.

If  your punk music selection is feeling a bit stale & you’re wearing deep grooves in all your vinyl or maybe you tired of being stumped when looking for something fresh at your local record shop; then this is for you. At Punk Not Profit you can access reviews & download entire LP’s & 7″ inches many of which were never updated to cd format. I bet you can find something here you haven’t heard before that will blow your mind. My Vinyl wish list grows as I scroll down their page.
